A Word from the Founders of Datong Taiji Academy

Hello everyone, my last name is Shen—you can call me Helen. I’m a co-founder of Datong Tai Chi Academy.

I previously served as a VP at a Fortune 500 company and spent over 20 years deeply rooted in my industry, building substantial experience and a strong track record.

In early 2020, I made the decision to leave behind a stable life in Beijing—owning a home and car, debt-free—and relocate to Canada.

Since then, I’ve devoted myself to what feels like the most meaningful work I could do: supporting my Tai Chi teacher, Master Wang Zuyao—an 8th-generation inheritor of Yang-style Tai Chi and a 5th-generation inheritor of Wang Qi He Tai Chi—in bringing authentic, traditional Tai Chi overseas, so more people can truly experience the warmth and strength of Chinese culture firsthand.

If you’re a beginner looking to build a solid foundation, we’ll guide you step by step using clear, down-to-earth explanations and simple, accessible movements—so you can quickly experience that feeling of “the more you practice, the more you want to keep going.”

If you’re hoping to improve your health through a gentle and systematic approach, we offer a well-developed path to help restore circulation, release deep-seated tension, and reduce chronic discomfort—so your body can move with ease again, and you can return to your daily life feeling steady, balanced, and energized.

If you’ve been practicing for years but still feel blocked, tense, or disconnected in your body, we’d love to connect and exchange. And if we’re aligned, there may even be opportunities to collaborate in the future—to help bring this traditional art to life overseas in a meaningful way.

Our program is never about quick results. It’s a grounded, consistent journey of reconnecting with your body and rebuilding from the roots. If you’re willing to practice diligently and follow the process, we’re confident that within three to four years, you’ll gain a true understanding of what authentic Tai Chi really is.

Now, I’d like to introduce the heart and soul of what we do—Master Wang Zuyao.

He didn’t begin studying Yang-style Tai Chi until the age of 40, but through 18 years of deep, immersive practice—learning, reflecting, teaching, and refining—he has developed an approach that often resonates even more with everyday people than those who started training as children. He has personally taught hundreds of students, from children to seniors in their 70s and 80s, each finding their own path in Tai Chi under his guidance. He never relies on abstract or hard-to-understand theories; instead, he uses the simplest, clearest methods to help people understand, apply, and benefit.

Earlier in life, Master Wang trained in Southern Chinese martial arts and was initiated into Shaolin Plum Blossom Boxing. He has also studied Tibetan yoga and meditation, along with traditional practices such as Qigong, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, and bone-setting. For many years, he has even offered free classical Chinese studies classes for children—integrating everything he’s learned into both his teaching and his way of life.

To fully dedicate himself to Tai Chi, he walked away from a successful and profitable business. And in order to support his own teacher in continuing to teach in Xiamen, he personally invested millions to build a training hall. Today, his greatest wish is to bring authentic Yang-style Tai Chi to the world, so more people can experience the depth and brilliance of Chinese traditional culture.

His sincerity and generosity have deeply moved me, and they’ve strengthened my belief: Tai Chi is not about performance—it’s about returning. Returning to the body’s natural intelligence. Returning to a calm, steady state within.

In a world full of noise and distraction, if you’re seeking real health, strength, and inner peace, we welcome you to join us on this path—back to what truly matters.

We’re here, and we look forward to meeting you.
